Mordialloc is a suburb of Melbourne, located 24 kilometers southeast of the city's central business district. The suburb is named after the Mordialloc Creek, which flows through the area and empties into Port Phillip Bay. The name "Mordialloc" is believed to be derived from the Aboriginal word "mordy-yallock," meaning "little sea mouth."

The area that is now Mordialloc was originally inhabited by the Boon Wurrung people. European settlers began to arrive in the area in the 1830s. In 1841, Mordialloc was surveyed and the first land was sold. The suburb grew slowly over the next few decades as the area was primarily used for farming and fishing.

In the late 19th century, Mordialloc became a popular holiday destination for Melburnians. The town's sandy beaches and proximity to the city made it an attractive spot for tourists. Many guesthouses and boarding houses were built in the area to accommodate the influx of visitors.

During World War II, Mordialloc played an important role in the defense of Melbourne. The suburb was home to a munitions factory, which produced ammunition for the war effort. The factory was located on the site of the current Woodlands Golf Club.

In the post-war years, Mordialloc experienced significant growth as people began to move to the suburbs. Housing estates were built in the area, and many of the old guesthouses and boarding houses were converted into permanent residences. The suburb also became an industrial hub, with factories and warehouses being established in the area.

Today, Mordialloc is a thriving suburb with a population of around 12,000 people. The suburb has a mix of residential, commercial, and industrial areas. Mordialloc Creek is a popular spot for fishing and boating, and the beach is a popular destination for swimming and sunbathing.

One of the most significant landmarks in Mordialloc is the Mordialloc Pier. The pier was first built in 1889 and has undergone several renovations over the years. Today, the pier is a popular spot for fishing and sightseeing.

Mordialloc is also home to several parks and reserves. The George Woods Reserve is a popular spot for picnicking and playing sports, while the Braeside Park is a large nature reserve with walking trails, picnic spots, and a lake.

In recent years, Mordialloc has undergone significant redevelopment. The suburb's main shopping strip, known as "Mordy Main Street," has been revitalized with new shops, cafes, and restaurants. A new housing development, known as "Woodlands," has also been built on the site of the old munitions factory.

Mordialloc is a suburb with a rich history and a bright future. Its beautiful beaches, parks, and reserves make it a great place to live, work, and play.
